Calif. EOC undergoes expansion

Inland Valley Daily Bulletin

ONTARIO, Calif. — With the annual wildfire season and earthquake preparedness in mind, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors has approved a much-needed expansion of the county's Emergency Operations Center.

"Disasters are all too familiar to residents of San Bernardino County, and the Emergency Operations Center is the nerve center that coordinates our response during these crises," 1st District Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt said in a statement.

The Emergency Operations Center, which neighbors Rialto Municipal Airport, will get about 25 percent bigger.

Plans for the 1,530-square-foot expansion include a conference room, which will be used for training activities, and three offices.

In September, the county received a $323,943 grant for the expansion from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. It was the only jurisdiction in California to receive such a grant.

The total cost of the project is $512,000. Additional money will come from the county's Capital Improvement Program.
