SENECA, S.C. — Duke Energy will conduct a training exercise at the Oconee Nuclear Station Wednesday that will involve local and state emergency preparedness officials, law enforcement personnel, and fire and rescue responders.

These agencies will team with Oconee Nuclear Station staff to conduct the emergency training exercise.

The training exercise will involve the use of artificial smoke visible and several emergency response organizations and vehicles may respond using lights and sirens to Oconee Nuclear Station, officials said.

"This is part of the exercise and the public should not be alarmed," said Rodney Brown, manager of emergency preparedness at Oconee Nuclear Station. "This training exercise is a collaborative partnership between Duke Energy and emergency responders as part of our commitment to be prepared."

"This community is fortunate to have such a well trained emergency response team led by Oconee County Emergency Management Services Director and Chief Rodney Burdette, and we appreciate their help with this practice drill," he added. "The public needs to be aware that this is a training exercise only and no public action is required."
