NYC sees $10 million boost in anti-terror funds

Newsday

WASHINGTON — New York City will see an increase this year in homeland security grants.

The city and its suburbs will get $144 million. That's about $10 million more than the area received last year from the Department of Homeland Security's Urban Area Security Initiative.

Officials with the agency have begun notifying lawmakers of the decision. A formal announcement is expected this week.

The grant money is shared by the city and surrounding areas, including Long Island and Westchester County.

Long Island Republican Rep. Peter King says the money shows Washington understands New York and the surrounding areas are "the number one terrorist target in the world."
