USDA ARRA Special Vehicle and Equipment Initiative
Grant Details:
Application Due Date: 09/30/2010
Description:
A word of caution, this is a first come first serve offering, if you are considering filing an application for this program then you should do so as quickly as possible.
Municipal Vehicle and Equipment Assistance:
USDA Rural Development's Community Facilities Program offers direct loans and grants to finance and facilitate the purchase of needed community vehicles in rural areas and towns of up to 20,000 in population. Grants are available for communities that qualify and most loans are made of below-market interest rates and are aimed at serving financially challenged rural areas.
Eligibility:
Public entities such as municipalities, counties, and others are eligible for vehicle loans and grants through USDA Rural Development. The amount of grant assistance for project costs depends upon the median household income of the service area and the population in the community where the vehicle is housed as well as the availability of grant funds. In most instances, projects which receive grant assistance have a high priority and highly leveraged with other loan and grant awards. Grant assistance may be available for up to 75% of eligible project costs. Grant funding limitations are based on population and income, economic feasibility, and availability of funds.
Funds may be used to purchase first responder vehicles and equipment such as fire, police, and medical emergency vehicles, emergency generators, computers, snow plows, truck plows and other essential equipment.
Eligible vehicles include (but are not limited to):
- Fire/rescue
- Sanitation
- Snow removal
- Utility
- Road maintenance/construction
- Dump trucks
- Paving equipment
- Backhoes
- Ambulances
You can find out more information on this initiative by contacting your regional office of USDA. Remember this is a one time funding opportunity. These funds will not be available next year.
