Napolitano: Piracy among Coast Guard's challenges
Associated Press
NEW LONDON, Conn. — Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano told graduating cadets at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy they face an ever-broadening set of threats, including the rising scourge of piracy.
Napolitano gave the keynote speech Wednesday at the academy's 128th commencement, at which 225 cadets received their commissions.
Former Vice President Dick Cheney gave last year's speech and President George W. Bush gave it in 2007. Both talked about the war in Iraq and the fight against terrorism.
Napolitano added piracy to the list, saying it's a threat "which in past months we have seen escalate into troubling new levels."
