More than 1,500 Emergency Managers to Gather in Kansas
Falls Church, Va. – More than 1,500 emergency managers from around the United States and the world will be in Kansas City (Overland Park), Kan., to attend the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) 56th Annual Conference to be held November 15-20, 2008 at the Overland Park Convention Center. The conference theme is Putting a new Spin on Emergency Management.
The event brings together members of the largest professional organization for emergency managers and homeland security officials to help leaders prepare for a disaster should one strike their communities. The sessions are designed to provide a forum for current trends and hot topics, as well as tools and technology in emergency management and homeland security. The program features a keynote presentation on Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, by Chief David Paulison, Administrator, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Following Chief Paulison’s keynote, he will participate in a media briefing to announce the Children in Disasters Initiative, which is a collaborative effort by FEMA, IAEM, Save the Children and the American Red Cross. The media briefing will be held in the Cottonwood Ballroom foyer in the Sheraton Overland Park Hotel and will begin at 10:45 a.m.
The Annual Conference will feature more than 50 presentations, including Keynotes, General Sessions, Breakout Sessions and Pre-Conference Training. Planned presentations include:

IAEM’s EMEX Exhibit is the show that brings together homeland security and disaster preparedness suppliers. More than 120 suppliers will exhibit the latest technologies available to local emergency managers.
