COLUMBUS, Ohio — The governor of Ohio has asked President Barack Obama for federal aid to begin an assessment of the damage from a weekend tornado that killed five.
Gov. Ted Strickland spoke to Obama on Monday about the storm and made his request based on reports from local and state officials in northwest Ohio.
Strickland says damage from the storm is so great that Ohio needs help assessing overall damages.
A tornado that struck the village of Millbury on Saturday night killed five people and destroyed dozens of homes, a school and an emergency services building.
